Development Fund Applications

We strongly believe that the MiDAS courses we are able to offer represent very good value, and are cheaper than almost any other provider. Unfortunately, they are still, inherently, expensive. As it is in SSAGO's best interests to minimise any financial barrier to as many drivers as possible completing MiDAS, SSAGO has agreed in principle to use the Dev Fund to support MiDAS Training.

Dev Fund Requirements

The aims of the Dev Fund are set out in Section 4.1 of the Development Fund Policy, which reads as follows:

 4.     Development Fund Grant:

    4.1.    Aims

4.1.1.    The aims of the Development Fund Grant is to:

4.1.1.1.    To provide an opportunity to promote, publicise, grow or develop SSAGO.

4.1.1.2.    To provide something of lasting value, for a minimum of 3 years.

4.1.1.3.    To be of benefit to SSAGO members or to the Guiding or Scouting movements as a whole.

MiDAS

By agreement with Team Pink, as an essential part of ensuring that we are operating safely and in line with best practice, MiDAS training is assumed to meet these requirements, subject to the particular driver being able to demonstrate an intent to remain within SSAGO as a driver for a minimum of 3 years.

This means that any application for funding for MiDAS training which is able to show that the driver plans to continue drinving for SSAGO for 3 years, should be accepted for half of the cost of the MiDAS course, as standard. This significantly reduces the cost of the course to individuals, and we're hopeful that this will make MiDAS more accessible for more SSAGO members.

Other Funding Sources

Unfortunately, SSAGO is only able to cover half of the cost of MiDAS, as outlined above. We hope that this will be of significant benefit to many people, but if you would still struggle to justify the personal cost, there are other options that you may want to consider:

  • Does your club have any money to support you? While not every club will be able to, if you are consistently driving for the club, then MiDAS training will be of some benefit to them, and they may be able to cover the other half of the cost in recognition of that.
  • Are you also a Scout/Guide volunteer? MiDAS is a nationally recognised qualification, and many minibuses that you may be able to hire in your voluntary roles will require all drivers to have it. As such, you may also be able to get support from your Section/Group/District/Division/County or similar, if they have funds available - it can't hurt to ask!
